Pale Grey: Pop, the cheerfully bitter way
Pale colours are the most enjoyable and the least aggressive to the eye. Pale grey, where the Belgians take their name from, is an ambivalent shade with a liking that is sad and sweet at the same time. Neither too bright nor too dark, it is the mixture of two extremes, two total opposites . Grey is a colour that results from two non- colours. Here’s the depth that Pale Grey drains in their music, in summer moods both light and moist.
In the same vein as Cayucas dazed by fever, Pale Grey produces a frothy pop, electronically tinged, which leaves the groove the time to make it’s way between Metronomy and The Notwist. The members of Pale Grey have fiddled about and recorded ” Best Friends ” in their home-made studio. The vintage touch of the titles comes from the use of old synths and drum machines, a way of theirs. When ” Seaside ” or ” Confession ” comes through the speakers, the desire to jiggle our hindquarters is unconscious, irrevocable, and the time to put on your favorite bracelets, matching headband and skin-tight shorts is declared. So bitter that it is in the background, the music of the four toddlers rides on the wave of fun, elegance and tenderness. The high prestige comes back with ” Milopoy ” that drops a mental soundtrack, traveling long journeys in Xantia, in an insane heat.
