UKNW SOUNDS : YOUNG KATO (UK)
“Do not hold your breath; you’ll catch your death “… These words summarize the emancipation of this band of young English lads from Cheltenham and Birmingham. Averaging an age of 18, the young students leave their school uniforms to go in search of the Holy Grail. Our brave knights launch their pursuit and triumphant, bring us the exciting Young Kato, which cleans and purifies our hearts and ears.
The band was formed in December 2011 by vocalist Tommy Wright and in 2012, they released onto the download platforms, their debut self-titled EP “Young Kato”. Drink, Dance, Play brings us an epic, fast and euphoric sound. We are then unconsciously drawn in closer to the spirit of local natives with Break Out. The third title Life’s Good, lends itself to a more familiar Coldplay style of music.
The particular rhythm, explosive guitar riffs and synthetic mishaps generate a delicious depth. All this amidst the drums avoidsthe obvious comparison with Snow Patrol. Finally, earning a place within British indie pop, the guys give us the credible and burning track Revolution, including all sounds found in the last three titles for a perfect balance… the ultimate fulfilment.
More relaxed than ever, with theirsensitive verses and dreams, Young Kato may seem a little awkward at times, but the fresh sound and capability of these six ambitious lads is switching it up, showing us, in every detail, that they are not amateurs.
