UKNW: Ewert and the two dragons
Great stuff made in Estonia !
Bored of always listening to my old playlist, I decided to look for new stuff for the pleasure of my perfect eardrums (according to my doctor!).
So my best friend google gave me millions of proposals, but in front of so much choices I couldn’t pick up something…just like when I go shopping and I have no idea what to buy! Lost! A chance I found the youtube channel of Berlin Sessions, which puts some acoustic video clips of very good and pretty unknown artists.
In the middle of different german singing bands, that my ears, though accustomed to hear that language, didn’t really appreciate, I found a bunch of cool indie rock and folk bands, in english please!
The one I decided to present you is Ewert and the two dragons, a rock band from Tallinn, the capital city of Estonia and European Capital of Culture 2011. Well, Estonia doesn’t speak to me that much, and that’s a shame. But a country that has taken its independence in 1991 might be able to mother great creations after years of Soviet regime. But besides the baltic groups I know from Eurovision, I know nothing about Estonian music!!
So our quartet, with a blond guy called Ewert at his head, started in 2009 with its first album The Hills Behind the Hills. Their folk universe is made of sweet melodies, sound of triangle and the soft voice of Ewert and offers a nice refreshing musical trip. Sometimes more pop but still always that strong, their music is essential.
I was amazed by their acoustic session of Sailor Man:
Real stars in their country, their concerts are always full and they got five awards at the Estonian Music Awards, one of them for their video clip Good Man Down :
With already two albums (Good Man Down, 2011), don’t miss this “small jewel”, that was rewarded during the European Border Breakers Award 2013.
It’s said that their live performances are awesome, so try to catch them!
